Rob

Background

Hello there and thanks for visiting! I've been developing websites and interfaces since 2000. I'm just as passionate about coding object-oriented arrays, functions and methods as I am with designing, developing and programming dynamic website features, layouts and interfaces. Many initial layouts and prototypes are sketched out in wireframe or prototyping programs as well as in Adobe Photoshop.

All code, markup and programming is done manually in IDE web editors. All interface work is
professional and well thought out down to the last bytes and pixels in ensuring that they are clean, well designed and fast-loading.

If you visit my project and portfolio pages along with a good in-depth look throughout the site and portfolio, you'll see my well rounded array of integrated skills underlining my years of expertise in design, development, engineering and programming.
quoteI had the pleasure of working with Rob at AARP as his lead, he is a very talented developer with extensive knowledge of UI/UX best practices. Thanks to his proficiency in pure Javascript and multiple libraries, he started making contributions to the Performance Management team within the first week of him joining. He then moved on to work on several high-visibility projects, like the ‘AARP Near Me” map, where he worked heavily on JS programming and the Google Maps API in order to effectively display local offers.

Rob continuously contributed to the development of registration forms and user-based error management on the classic as well as the new AARP websites where he also ensured that we had the proper display of content both in English and Spanish while adhering to the latest trends in responsive design. He is a very analytical developer with great people skills, his positivity and technical expertise have certainly helped maintain and improve the very high standards of quality expected from such large and complex projects.quote
- Juan Siller-Maltos, Lead UI Engineer, AARP - 2015
quoteRob was our lead front-end developer for the FIFA World Cup 2014 project. Development work started in mid-February 2014, and we had a firm deadline to deliver a responsive, mobile-first web site by kickoff time of the first World Cup match. Working with several unknowns on a stressful time crunch, the sites had to integrate and allow sharing to existing Facebook pages, plug into our enterprise analytics suite (Site Catalyst) and appear in two languages. The sites had to be responsive on desktops, smartphones, Blackberry, and Nokia devices with basic mobile web access. This also was our first foray offering live game casts of the matches; the games' graphical displays had to update quickly and present well. The front-end work to make all this happen was no small feat!

Without Rob's involvement the project would not have succeeded. He was professional, possessed a can-do attitude and had excellent communication with the team. He responded quickly and thoroughly to hot fixes and optimized the page load time of the sites. With Rob's help, our site iteratively improved. After a few tweaks to our systems after receiving actual live game data from the first few matches (there's no better test than production, right?!), we were in full swing. Rob collaborated very well with other team members including: our front-end designer, UX lead, backend developer, and social media manager. I greatly valued his persistence and willingness to take a proactive approach to finding and resolving technical issues.quote
- Son Tran, Project Manager, Broadcasting Board of Governors - 2014
quoteRob came to National Geographic at a very busy time for us. We were overloaded with projects and with his help we were able to get our projects launched on time.

Rob's work on the National Geographic content management system allowed producers to quickly create articles in a new layout that was not previously available. He worked with producers and designers to implement the new designs using component pieces and layout templates in order to offer the most flexibility to the producers.

Rob's knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript were an immense help to the project and crucial for getting the functionality ready for use.

Rob is a hard worker and a great team member. quote
- Grant Swertfeger, Director of Development Operations, National Geographic Society - 2013

He couples his skill with a warm, engaging personality. He's always willing to go the extra mile to solve a problem and smile while doing it.quote
- Josh Jeffryes, Lead UI Engineer, The College Board - 2012
quote Rob worked on a 9 month contract to develop a web search UI using AJAX. On this project he wrote excellent, well-crafted JS and CSS. Rob worked tremendously hard on this project, doing the coding required while also learning the team tools we use; Eclipse and SVN. The project was wrapped up a few months early, so I asked Rob to spend the last couple months doing some design work for another project. I discovered that Rob is also a talented UX designer.

I highly recommend Rob, especially for projects that demand independence and creative thinking. He works very hard at good communication, which makes him a valuable teammate.quote
- Gene Chipman, HCI Researcher and User Experience Lead, Comcast / Streamsage - 2011
quote I first knew Rob as a professional colleague as he is a fellow board member of the National Cued Speech Association. We both came on the board at the same time and I was immediately impressed with Rob. Particularly with the time he took to get to know and build relationships with our fellow board members as well as the members of the association as a whole. By doing this, he greatly enriched the quality of the experience of our members as well as really galvanizing our board around a major project he spearheaded… building a cutting-edge non-profit website & eNewsletter that is smart-phone friendly. Additionally, Rob has initiated several innovative advertising and marketing concepts for our fundraising arm of the organization, The Deaf Children’s Literacy Project. Both Rob’s efforts and the unveiling of the new website were met with a standing ovation at our recent board meeting in Austin, Texas.

Rob is a successful and experienced web designer who understands the role internet technology plays in the overall development of an organization’s business and public relations efforts. He has been instrumental in advising me on my business’s website and internet marketing campaigns. He has good rapport, respect for each individual’s needs and an approach to collaboration that encourages clear and open lines of communication.

Rob is very professional in his approach to dealing with people of varying backgrounds and relates well to both young and old alike. His education and experience in the business world provides him with a well-rounded perspective which he uses to communicate concepts to the younger members of our organization. As a mentor to them he has a desire to understand each of them to help them simultaneously maximize strengths and improve in key areas.

On a personal vein, Rob is passionate about his family and his career. He is friendly, and is well regarded and respected by his peers.quote
- John Brubaker, Author, Seeds of Success: The Movie - 2012
quoteUnder an intense time frame, Rob was able to take a vision and make it a reality in developing the Literacy Counts website. Literacy Counts was launched within a few weeks - all on schedule! I was amazed at how easy (and enjoyable) the process was to work with Rob, and very impressed with his quick response time, as well as his skill and expertise to take my ideas and suggestions, improve on them, and give a product that was so much better than what I had in mind. quote
- Maria Gildea, Treasurer, National Cued Speech Assocation - 2009
quoteAt the beginning of the project, Rob drew up a schedule and helped us stick to it by asking the right questions to keep us on track. He offered invaluable advice and guidance throughout the project and gave our website just the look we had hoped for. His talent for design, impressive skill base, and disciplined approach made every meeting productive. His professionalism, and cheerful disposition are a winning combination in any work setting.quote
- Margie M. Hall, President, SilkRoute Security - 2007
